5K

Above photos before the race. The sun was really in my eyes.

The race was in Cedar Creek Park in Seaford, off Merrick Road.

So I ran 35:51, which is 11:34 pace. Took a minute and 10 seconds off last week's time trial on the track. Took that off my first run's pace, though that was a 4 miler. Hadn't run since Sunday because my back was really hurting, so basically 2 training days prior to the race, 5 days no running before race.

Cori had a weird experience where smoke went into her lungs from the wood fire they used to roast marshmallows, and she had a challenging race. She was upset. The race wasn't as glorious as the last one, but she'd read a blog about bad races, so she feels she got experience with a bad race.

We looked into New Years Eve midnight runs. The one on Long Island costs over $60. There's one in Central Park, but we like to run outside the city, for various reasons. Not sure when our next race is. I think we're going to stay at 5K length until we can run the whole race. Middle aged me can compare myself to a younger version, and be harsh, but it's good to get out there and exercise. I'm glad for the experience, even if I'm not quite as fast as I was in the past. I look forward to the day when we can do a long slow distance run and talk to each other while we run. I hope that happens. I don't see why it wouldn't if we trained every day.

This was a smaller race than the previous one. Cori didn't experience the community feeling we got in Lynbrook. I thought it was a good race. Lots of people with costumes and such. Cori doesn't like the out and back kind, she likes loops.
